Background
My Client is the state-owned company that holds the licence as the electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO) and as the wholesale Market Operator in the Republic of Ireland. In the role of TSO, The company is responsible for the management and operation of the power system, and for planning, developing and ensuring the maintenance of the transmission system. In fulfilling its Market Operator function, They are working with key stakeholders and partners to operate the new Single Electricity Market.
Job Relationships
Reporting to the Transmission Access Planning manager.
Purpose
This is a highly technical and analytical role in which the role holder provides direction, makes considered decisions, takes responsibility and personal ownership for projects and processes ensuring their department supports objectives and decisions by delivering results.
Main Responsibilities
The Power System Planning area is responsible for all aspects of planning the development of the transmission system in Ireland. Activities include: Plan for the strategic development of the transmission network, in the face of increasing uncertainties, using existing or new methodologies Obtain approval to proceed with preferred developments Production of the annual Transmission Forecast Statement Plan the connection of generators, demand customers, interconnectors and distribution stations Liaise closely with and maintain good working relationships with other parts of EirGrid and with the DSO, SONI, NIE, the CER, customers, and other stakeholders. Review and introduce new tools, policies and procedures as appropriate ? Capable of making decisions impacting their department within the objectives and strategy guidelines of the organisation Responsible for leading activities and delivering completed work cost effectively and to required timelines Coaching of junior engineers
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Senior planning engineers will be responsible for leading activities and delivering the completed work to required timelines.
(a) Essential:
At least 4 - 6+ years post graduate experience Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Understanding of commercial issue Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex issues in a timely manner Ability to guide, persuade and influence others through developed skills of communication and diplomacy Excellent interpersonal skills Strong analytical, judgement and problem solving ability A proven ability to lead projects and project teams Strong oral and written communication skills The ability to work successfully as part of a team (b) Desirable:
Experience of planning, design, construction or operation of transmission or sub-transmission networks Knowledge of power system analysis techniques
